Remembering When
Remembering When is a fun, game show-like discussion for older adults that mixes trivia questions with fall and fire prevention information. At age 65, older adults are twice as likely to be killed or injured by fires or falls, compared to the population at large. This risk dramatically increases by age 85. This program is designed to reduce injuries and deaths from fires, burns and falls among the growing older population. Fire District 1 hosts Remembering When events at various times throughout the year. To schedule a Remembering When session for your community submit an online program request or contact our Fire and Life Safety Educators.
Assistance with smoke alarms
Smoke alarms are inexpensive life insurance. They are an early warning device designed to alert people to smoke or fire that might otherwise go undetected until it’s too late to escape the house. Having them is simply not enough. They need to be in working condition to do their job.
If you are 55 years or older, own your home and live in Fire District 1, you may qualify to have us install a smoke alarm for you. To find out if you live in Fire District 1 and qualify for this program, contact Kim Schroeder.
